Young Men of Color Summit

3RD ANNUAL YOUNG MEN OF COLOR SUMMIT

March 11, 2016 from 8:30am – 3:00pm
New Leaders, 21st Century Voices!

We are excited to announce the 3rd Annual Young Men of Color Summit on March 11, 2016 at Kennedy King College from 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  This year’s Summit is a partnership between the Chicago Public Schools' Office of College and Career Success (OCCS), School Counseling and Postsecondary Advising, the Chicago GEAR-UP Alliance, City Colleges of Chicago, Kennedy King College and theMorehouse College Alternative Spring Break Group.

The Summit continues to promote male achievements and positive pathways to success. The theme, New Leaders, 21st Century Voices, highlights the ongoing urgency to expose our young men to positive experiences, relevant opportunities - and allows space to foster their individual self-efficacy. The Summit also expands on the OCCS mission to close the college enrollment gap among young men of color.

Over 300 young men will participate in a series of workshops that will focus on: How to Succeed at a 4Yr and 2Yr College, Construction Management, Culinary Hospitality, Construction Management, The Benefit of Mentoring and Youth Rights!

The workshops will be delivered by a volunteer core of student peers, college students, college professors and career professionals. There will be a special presentation to address conflict resolution and youth rights!

We look forward to having you participate at this year’s Summit. Additional details are forthcoming, but registration is open via chooseyourfuture.cps.edu. You will be asked to complete a brief survey to determine additional program content.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Patrick Milton at pwmilton@cps.edu, Eric Williams at ezwilliams@cps.edu or Yvonne Hall at yahall@cps.edu if you have additional questions or comments. Space for this event is limited!
